In April 2011, MegaFon announced a competition for the best mascot for the Future Depends on You open Russian nationwide tournament. The winning mascot should reflect the spirit of fair play, friendship and team spirit between participants and their passion to win and make their lives better.

1,500 children from 300 Russian children’s homes and orphanages submitted works. The winner was Zhenya Kulikov, the creator of Bootsenok, which he came up with together with his friends and teacher during an art class. An influential jury of 15 representatives of the footballing community voted for this work. The prize for the winner was a pair of autographed boots from Cristiano Ronaldo — the boots the world footballing legend used to score the most goals in 2008 and win the Ballon d’Or.

The mascot for the Street Child World Cup: The Future Depends on You, which MegaFon is holding with support from the international charities Save the Children and Street Child United in May 2018, on the eve of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, is the Amur tiger, chosen for its strength and bravery, which fully reflect the spirit of this major event.

In June 2017, the young footballers that won this year’s tournament gave their drawings featuring the world cup mascot to Vladimir Putin during the first match in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, when Russia played New Zealand, which they watched together with the president on his personal initiation.
